In a few weeks, tractors will return to the fields to harvest what sugar cane farmers hope will be an ample crop.

Sugar cane produces $2.7 billion for Louisiana’s economy on 400,000 acres of land in 22 parishes. Cane can also produce complaints when farmers burn off their fields after the harvest. As Acadiana real estate continues to expand into rural areas, there have been complaints about the impact of sugar cane burning near residential areas. READ THE STORY
